Scientific Output

Vicente Rodríguez Rodríguez is a PhD in Geography and History, Complutense University of Madrid. He is currently acting as a Research Professor at the Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography (IEGD), Center for Social and Human Sciences (CCHS) (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC). He has taught courses at several Spanish universities, and has been a visiting professor at universities in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Dr Rodríguez belongs to the Research Group on Aging, (GIE-CSIC). The Group has identified some issues related to the aging of the population, the conditioning factors and components. Most of his research have been produced by means of the collaboration between the Group's researchers and the Carlos III Health Institute to participate in projects and collaborate in scientific publications.

Another area of recent interest is the reflection on the quality of life and well-being of the elderly, in relation to other aspects, such as active aging, and conditioned by participation in national alliances (Health-Related Life Quality Group, ISCIII, or Gender Studies, UC3M) and international networks (ISQOLS, Iberoamerican Network of Gerontology, Latin American Population Association, RIIIES). This effort has led to the participation in studies published in books and articles on the general perspective of the quality of life of the elderly population in Spain.

The ELES Project has been constituted, for several years, as an essential source for the development of the research of the GIE-CSIC, and other research groups (ISCIII), given its interdisciplinary design and development, to elaborate works of a methodological nature and others that provide specific results. ELES emphasizes the analysis of the relationship of quality of life as a general concept, measured through satisfaction with aspects such as chronic conditions, disability and multimorbidity, leisure activities, economic conditions or the family, social and residential environment, as conditioning factors of the aging process, as a complement to individual, family and social factors. The ELES Project has been developed with funding from the Ministry of Science and Innovation and Economy and Competitiveness, both for the production of data and for its analysis and interpretation.

Finally, and starting from the ELES Project, a scientific activity oriented to the study of active aging in Spain and in Latin American countries is being consolidated. For this, several initiatives are being developed, led by Spanish and Latin American researchers, such as the ENACTIBE Network or the ENCAGE program of the Community of Madrid, in which the applicant participates, designed from a multidisciplinary, methodological and analytical base, and that have Spanish and international funding. Some results have already been presented to national and international congresses and are currently being published in books and magazines.
